About this Step
Once you’ve sat for an official exam, the most important testing decision you’ll need to make is whether to take it again. If you’ve achieved your goal the first time around, kudos! You're done. However, most students should plan to take their chosen exam(s) at least twice. Taking at least two exams gives you an additional opportunity to reach your goal score and provides valuable experience and insight to help you prepare for future attempts. You May Be Asking...
Is it worth it to take an ACT or SAT more than once?
Most definitely! Having a second (or third) test date allows you to familiarize yourself with the experience, work on key skills between exams, and provides the psychological benefit of knowing you have another chance at the exam. This also allows for you to enhance your skills in the areas where you did not score as highly as you’d like since you are able to request a copy of your answers from the ACT or SAT you took. Additionally, many schools allow you to “superscore” the ACT: pick out the best individual sections from multiple exams to create your best possible composite score.
